Cryosurgery Results Of Prostate Cancer

Cryosurgery Results of Prostate Cancer

If you're in a choosing situation of which initial procedure is the best way to combat your prostate cancer, then I would suggest cryosurgery. Here's why.

Cryosurgery results of prostate cancer are several percent better in eliminating the disease than other medical procedures –without being too invasive. Radical prostatectomy has a high percentage of success, yes, in eliminating the prostate cancer but that usually includes the prostate itself. And being a very invasive procedure, it causes severe complications on the quality of life post cancer. Depending on the skill of the surgeon and the techniques employed, the "nerve sparing", serious complications include fecal or urinary incontinences among erectile and ejaculation dysfunctions.

I would therefore strongly recommend cryosurgery than radical prostatectomy; that is if you want to conserve most of your prostate function, which is responsible for most sexual function. Because the cryosurgery results of prostate cancer is better than prostatectomy in the long run. Likewise, too, if you want to avoid complications like fecal and/ or urinary incontinence. Radical prostatectomy isn't for everybody. Older men, those beyond 70s may not have the constitution to resist radical prostatectomy complications if not the operation itself.

Radiation treatment of prostate cancer may be a more minimally invasive procedure than cryosurgery, but for its success rate and accompanying complications, cryosurgery remains still the better option. Yes, radiation on sufficient levels can kill cancer cells. There are, however, tumor cells that require higher radiation levels that may not be safe for the adjacent healthy cells. And the worst scenario would be; by eliminating the cancer cells, the radiation procedure also destroys the surrounding healthy tissues.

And the radiation treatment isn't that efficient. There is that upper limit in radiation application that must never be exceeded. And it takes longer, around two years, to tell if the radiation treatment had successfully killed off the tumor cells. And if it hasn't, additional radiation isn't feasible, compounded by the fact that treating a failed radiation treatment always causes severe complications, even if the radiation treatment hasn't caused any complications. Take for instance; failing a radiation treatment, one decides to have radical prostatectomy. Radical retropubic prostatectomy is then the best next course, but due to the side effects of the radiation therapy, urinary incontinence is already a substantial threat. Cryosurgery results of prostate cancer therefore have a better percentage of success without complications than radiation treatment.

Always ask your doctor for a detailed advice regarding prostate cancer treatments. Cryosurgery is still relatively new practice, and most medical practitioners would suggest procedures where their knowledge is more refined, which is not always cryosurgery. And the best cryosurgery specialists are hard to find and spaced far apart. If you can, ask for comprehensive cryosurgery results of prostate cancer records.
